Aya Takano was born in Saitama, Japan : December 22 1978.

She spent her childhood to read all sort of science fiction which have given her a great inspiration of her creativity. Osamu Tezuka's science fiction was an early influence in Takano's life.The juxtaposition between future and fantasy is a main theme of Takanos' works. Her works draw its themes from the symbolics of unknown world, the frayed edges of society, misshapen animal life forms, and the oathodoxy of human desires.

Soon after graduated from Tama Art University in Tokyo, she became an assistant for leading Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami who became her first mentor and helping to develop her career.
After all these years' hardworking, Aya Takano is considered as one of the best japanese "Superflat" and Manga artists.
